Originaria de la costa Atlántica de Nicaragua, esta artesanía inicia su producción en la región del pacífico en 1993 y desde entonces se ha popularizado, en particular, en Cinco Pinos, departamento de Chinandega. De un grupo inicial de 12 mujeres, el colectivo Pinarte está conformado hoy en día por 30 mujeres, que se emplean a tiempo completo a su quehacer artesanal, sabiendo aprovechar esa materia prima local abundante, como son las agujas muertas del pino.
El éxito radica en la calidad, además de su ventaja como amigable con el medio ambiente. Pero sobre todo la oferta de productos muy variados, tanto de propia inspiración como de diseñadores internacionales, en cuyas propuestas se combina el pino con otros materiales, tales como la cerámica, el cuero o el hierro forjado.
These handicrafts, originally created by artisans on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua , began to be produced in the Pacific coast in early 1990's. They have since become very popular, particularly with the artisans of Cinco Pinos, Chinandega. Starting in 1993 with a group of twelve women, Pinarte now has thirty women who make their living from weaving these baskets, taking advantage of an abundant local raw material - pine needles.
Their success is due to the quality and appeal of their products. The fact that they are environmentally friendly is an additional attraction. They have a wide range of products, some designed by the artisans, others designed by international artists, combining pine needle basketry with materials such as ceramic, leather or wrought iron.
